Review of "Evil Never Dies" by Magnum Carnage
Oh dear...
From Honolulu, Hawaii comes a black metal surprise. I've never heard of a Hawaiian metal band before (though the band partially consists of inland Americans), but there's a first time for everything. I must admit I didn't expect much after seeing the abysmal cover art, and I guess my worst predictions really hit home.
Magnum Carnage attempt a sort of atmospheric black metal hybrid with horror incluences, not far from what Necrophagia do best. Though, of course, Necrophagia actually knows their stuff. Magnum Carnage is, to say the least, awful. The instrumentalists seem way off at many a time (notice the constant out of key synth), especially the drummer sounds like he needs a lot more practice. The production is not at all the worst I've heard, though it is sub par of what is expected from a professional release. I'm not saying that Magnum Carnage are professional, far from it, but one still needs something crunchier than this.
The material itself is rather washed out, un-inspired and far from original, making the total of 38 minutes of matieral presented, rather obsolete to tell you the truth.
If you feel the desire to check out the band, visit www.myspace.com/magnumcarnage. I can't say I recommend it, but go ahead any way.
I do however have to give the band praise for trying, and also for trying to bribe me by sending some rather exotic Hawaiian rice candy. Nice try guys!
